Summary:

The Reliability Training Manager will be responsible for the training and development of vessel engineers, shore tankerman, endorsed deckhands, and shoreside engineering personnel. This position will partner with operation leadership, safety, compliance, and training Team Members to develop, maintain, and present training aligning to ACBL culture, policies, and government regulations.

Essential Duties/Functions:

• Develop and deliver Vessel Engineering, Non-Engineered Basic Maintenance, Shore Tankerman, and Endorsed Deckhand training curricula, schedule training classes, and partner with all departments necessary to schedule Team Members for the classes.
• Oversee an Engineer-In-Training program that recruits, selects, teaches, and develops new engineers; evaluates Team Members to ensure competency development and training effectiveness.
• Develop and track KPI measurements associated with vessel engineering skills, training needs, and effectiveness of training programs.
• Maintain all vessel engineering training records electronically through company designated training record database (e.g., Intellex)
• Partner with Reliability and HR Teams to project future turnover, identify skill/knowledge gaps, advise on training opportunities/needs, and assist with developing career progression planning.
• Maintain a vessel engineer mentor program, to include providing leadership, direction, advice, and counsel to vessel engineering Team Members regarding all aspects of their job (technical; safety; environmental; leadership; crew interaction; management of Assistant Engineers; etc.)
• Develop and maintain a list of the qualified Person-In-Charge individuals who can fuel our vessels according to company and government requirements and maintaining the required documentation and training classes associated with the PIC regulations.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Safety to enhance the existing vessel drill program to include engineering related scenarios (e.g., main engine failure, generator failure)
• Partner with Legal department to discover grant opportunities related to training, develop a plan for potential usage of these grants, and submit applications
• Assist Engineering leadership as needed, to include, but not limited to, being a backup for Port Engineers when they are off
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Diesel Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Training and Development, or a related field is Preferred.

Years of Experience:

5+ years of pertinent experience required

Demands:

Knowledgeable of inland and coastal operations, USCG and Subchapter M regulations, vessel equipment and systems, work planning and timelines, effective training methods, and techniques.
