Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder - Religious Educator (3/hr per week)

Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder (UUCB) is a dynamic, progressive congregation of 240 members and 45 children and youth located in southeast Boulder. We are seeking two people to be part of the UUCB Family Ministry staff as teachers on Sunday mornings. Teachers will coordinate with our assistant minister to create a caring community for our children and youth as they explore our UU faith tradition.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Religious Educators will be supervised by Rev. Dana Lightsey.

HOURS: 3-5 hours per week including 2-4 hours each Sunday from 8:30a-10:30a or 12:30p onsite with one Sunday per month off. The remaining hour will include reviewing the upcoming lessons, preparing lists of needed supplies, and coordinating with the Assistant Minister or Director of Religious Education and other staff to make sure everything is ready for class.

COMPENSATION: $15/hour

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serving our children and youth through teaching our Sunday morning curricula:

• Familiarize oneself with each week’s curriculum

• Prepare for class and make sure all materials have been ordered or compiled.

• Prepare the classroom space and materials before class meets

• Facilitate the session in an engaging and friendly way that uses appropriate and respectful classroom management

• Collaborate with the parent volunteers to effectively help with the class

• Pick-up and put away all materials and clear the space after class

• Facilitate class on Zoom, if needed

• Coordinate with the Assistant Minister or Director of Religious Education in planning and preparation of lessons

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity and appreciation with liberal religion

• Experience teaching children and/or MS youth in a group setting

• Basic understanding of child development

• Experience and comfort with classroom management

• Ability to work independently and collaborate with volunteers and staff

• Effective verbal and written communication

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Unitarian Universalist affiliation. Education degree.
