Job Title: Interpreter

Hours/Week: Dependent Upon Scheduled Appointment

Pay Per HR: Negotiated Rate

Multi-Platform: VRI (Video Remote Interpreting), OSI (Onsite Interpreting), OPI (Over the Phone Interpreting)

Job Description: Independent Contractor

Tasks

• Provide foreign language interpreting to enable understanding and successful communication between individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and providers and staff.
• Provide sight translation of English or other language documents as required.
• Adheres to interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics.
• Provide education to individuals and provider/staff on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices that are relevant to the encounter.
• Relay concepts and ideas between languages.
• Thoroughly understand the subject matter to effectively convert source language to target language.
• Remain sensitive to the cultures associated with the languages of expertise.

Work Activities

• Confidentiality during regarding all interpretations
• Use oral communication techniques
• Attend scheduled training or appointments
• Maintain appointment calendar
• Provide quality seamless service to internal and external customers
• Other duties as required per Interpretation needs.

Education and Experience

Years of Experience: 1 yrs minimum

Education: Bridging the Gap, CCHI or equivalent certification

Skills Required:

• Active Listening
• Reading Comprehension
• Ability to render precise, accurate interpretation without omissions or additions
• Ability to remain impartial in all situations
• Ability to correctly provide culturally necessary information

Skills Preferred:

• Previous exposure to simultaneous Interpretation
• Previous exposure to consecutive Interpretation

Knowledge Required:

• Oral Communication
• Computers and Electronics
• Customer and Personal Service
• English/Other language - Language Skills
• Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
• Must pass criminal history background check

Additional requirements:

• Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
• Must pass criminal history background check
• For on-site position must be able to provide a proof of annual tuberculosis screening and updated immunization records

Preferred:

• Interpreter in foreign language

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $18.00 - $40.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• On call
• Weekend availability

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

• Medical Interpreters: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

• Medical Interpretation Certification (Required)
