About This Role:
This position is key to supporting the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry teaching and research across the entire Department. This position will provide dual support to the Farm Shop Unit and the KSU Poultry Unit. This position will be supervised by the ASI Units Farm Manager, whom will coordinate with the Poultry Supervisor for related duties and overall performance evaluation done yearly.

The incumbent will be involved with all aspects of production of crops and their harvesting to provide feed for research and teaching animals, livestock and general farming jobs.

Incumbent will have other duties as assigned including but not limited to grounds maintenance, departmental functions such as field days, clinics, and seminars, maintaining necessary records and reports, maintenance, repairs, and construction of machinery, equipment, buildings, and fences used in crop production and livestock research.

The incumbent will be assisting the Faculty Supervisor of the KSU Poultry Farm. Research foci includes basic and applied research projects with laying hens, broilers, turkeys, pheasant, and quail.

Specific tasks include the daily operations and maintenance of the facility, collection of research samples and data. Incumbent will maintain accurate and detailed study records, order supplies, maintain inventory, facilitate training, assist graduate students in their research activities, and hire, train and supervise undergraduate student employees.

Incumbent will be interacting with the public at extension events, seminars, field days and other department related events.

The incumbent will be required to handle live animals, move heavy items, handle and mix feed components and perform indoor and outdoor work during weather extremes (winter & summer). Incumbent will be able to do general maintenance of buildings and research equipment and maintain the operation of farm equipment.

What You'll Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree

Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. in Animal Sciences or closely related field
Experience and interest in working with avian species
Previous experience with data collection and record keeping
Demonstrated capability of making routine repairs, updates, and remodeling of physical facilities
Previous experience with supervision of employees
Experience with repairs and maintaining buildings, machinery, and equipment
Experience in modern farming and livestock production
Experience in the operation of farm equipment and machinery
