OhioGuidestone’s Institute of Family and Community Impact (IFCI) Research Center seeks to advance the mental health field through empirical examination of clinical practices, and validation of evidence based and informed interventions to leverage better outcomes for children, families and communities. The Research Center’s focus revolves around examining interventions, and elucidating determinants of overall mental health and wellness in children and families. Our research approaches include randomized control trials, validation studies and secondary data analysis. We pride ourselves on designing and conducting research with measures of high ethical and data integrity. Our Research Center Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all research activity in accords with local and federal regulations around research involving human subjects. The Research Center uses study outcomes to inform program evaluation, clinical trainings and products, policy influencing and general knowledge through published media.

Job Summary:

The Research Center is looking to hire a part-time research assistant who is passionate about using science, technology, policy, evaluation, business analytics, healthcare and research to enhance lives and build connections across a variety of communities and reduce disparities. Research assistants should be able to commit 15-20 hours a week. Research assistants general work priorities include data management, literature and online searches, writing a variety of media, and assisting the Director of Applied Clinical Sciences Research with coordinating research studies, facilitating trainings and meetings, and program evaluation. Research assistants will generally work out of an office based in Berea, OH. Ability to work remote (work from home) is possible, however on-site work will be required as business needs dictate, which could include some occasional off-site travel for meetings, trainings, and in-home visits (as delineated for certain research protocols).


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with coordination of current and new program evaluation and research protocol priorities including, but not limited to recruitment, enrollment, and outreach
  • Participate in execution of research study activities or visits as assigned
  • Data Management: data collection, entry and storage; demonstrating high levels of organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Perform literature and online searches, organizing and presenting content in a user-friendly, person first, culturally sensitive manner
  • Employ strong writing skills to contribute to a variety of presented and published media, including blogs, reports, trainings, manuscripts, and books
  • Support Research Center project management through consistent and detailed updates
  • Assist with agency Research Administration and Compliance body (IRB)
  • Able to use Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Excel) at an Intermediate or above level
  • Able to navigate online platforms, including social media, to support research project priorities
  • Engage in continual learning and training to support Research Center operations
  • Advocate for those whom OhioGuidestone serves
  • Represent OhioGuidestone in a positive manner at all times
  • Communicate openly, honestly and respectfully to all members of OhioGuidestone
  • Help come up with solutions for issues as they arise, support staff without judgment
  • Be proactive, strive for improvement, assist with furthering the mission of OhioGuidestone
  • Follow thru until the issues are resolved or handled by the appropriate person
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance to the satisfaction of management
  • May be involved in the planning, organization, and implementation of special events, specific projects, or program changes

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to clearly and confidentially communicate with OhioGuidestone employees, clients, students, participants, and other stakeholders using all means of communication including but not limited to, in-person, phone, and computer
  • Must be computer and social media savvy and enjoys participating in extensive online research
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills: written, electronic and in-person
  • Must be able to verbally exchange information in a confidential manner with employees, clients, students, participants, and/or families in various settings
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other position related technologies
  • Driving may also include transportation of clients, students, or participants
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.

Performance/Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to visually read written and digital information
  • Must be able to visually determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned and/or to make general observations of facilities or structures
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication
  • Must be able to hear clients, students, or participants, co-workers, and supervisors at normal speaking levels
  • Must be able to type case files and other paperwork
  • Must be able to frequently drive to varying work environments including agency office, school based, community based including client homes in various communities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of HS diploma. Preferred advanced degrees such as Bachelors in Psychology, Sociology, Pre- or Allied Health Fields, Public Policy or Affairs, Clinical Social Work, Neuroscience or Cognitive Science, Education, Health Management, Health Communications, Organizational Development, or related fields is preferred
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Ability to take and pass a physical exam and drug screening.
  • Employment is contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
