SUMMARY

Under the supervision of Principal Investigators, the Research Assistant I provides support to research teams on multiple projects intended to advance the scientific understanding of issues related hearing and balance issues affecting veterans. These research projects are highly interdisciplinary and typically include working with the VA and OHSU electronic medical record, recruiting participants and quantitative data, qualitative data, or mixed methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant's primary responsibilities will support project operations and objectives. Tasks will be commensurate with training and essential duties include:

  • Managing participant recruitment and tracking enrollment
  • Communicating with research subjects regarding study procedures and requirements
  • Facilitating subject reimbursement and compensation
  • Managing study databases, including data entry, cleaning, and data export

JOB DUTIES

  • Assisting with Institutional Review Board approvals and data requests
  • Administering surveys and/or interviews
  • Creating and maintaining detailed study records
  • Basic quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis
  • Helping with grant and report preparation and submission
  • Contributing to the writing and preparation of manuscripts for scientific journals and presentations of study findings at professional meetings
  • Completing additional administrative tasks to support projects

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy, computer science or other science area
  • Experience with research as an undergraduate or in a research setting
  • Commitment to contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral)

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Proficient in R

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow written protocols
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills: be able to multitask efficiently, have rigorous attention to detail, maintain project records and notes, and prioritize projects

LOCATION and ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Primary job location is located on the VA Portland Health Care System campus.
