GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Our team studies and designs care innovations in maternal health. Specifically, the postpartum care transition after hypertensive pregnancies with an emphasis on care for vulnerable populations including populations of color. Projects center around developing educational programs and tools for patients and providers to better support birthing persons in vulnerable settings including Maternal Health desserts. Our team includes collaborative work across Brigham and Women’s with the Division of Women’s Health, Department of OBGYN including the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division, across Harvard Medical School to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and with Ariadne Labs and the Harvard School of Public Health. We also work collaboratively with teams across the US in the dialogue to improve care in this space including a number of foundations including the Preeclampsia foundation and the March of Dimes.

The RA will be expected to work within a multidisciplinary and multi-site research team. An RA with a high level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills is required to provide first line support for queries from stakeholders and participants. The RA will need excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

We are looking for a full time (40 hours/week) Research Assistant (RA) to help us with this work. The RA would work primarily with Dr. Celi and would be encouraged to join her other projects (e.g., on maternal and racial justice, maternal care innovation). The RA will participate in research and other publications as a co-author, present research, and be closely mentored by Dr. Celi and the team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help prepare Institutional Review Board (IRB) review documents
  • Manage projects and workflows including administrative tasks (schedule conference calls and meetings, prepare agendas and pre/post-meeting materials; keep team on weekly, monthly, and yearly schedules)
  • schedule conference calls, meeting, travel as needed. photocopying electronic mailing, mailing, project documentation, and other administrative duties as required that may also be to support student interns
  • may be required to travel between sites
  • Arrange, lead, and analyze interviews with patients and doctors
  • Recruit and follow-up with patients while testing clinical tools and doing feedback studies
  • Extract and analyze patient information in Epic
  • Use MS Access and Excel to collect, construct, clean, and link data sets and perform descriptive analyses
  • Use REDCap for data collection and organization, and format RPDR downloads
  • Use statistical software to run statistical analyses
  • Help prepare PowerPoint presentations, posters, figures, tables, and data visualizations (creativity encouraged!)
  • Perform and write up literature reviews with help of bibliography services such as Endnote
  • Format research manuscripts for publication
  • communicate with funding donors, sponsors and progress reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with planned or current enrollment in health policy, health professional, or public health graduate school.
  • An interest in health care and health policy, ideally with plans to go into health services or health policy research or medicine.
  • An interest in qualitative and quantitative research

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with statistical programming and agility to learn new programming techniques preferred.
  • Familiarity with Endnote preferred.
  • familiarity with videoconferencing
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • excellent collaborative interpersonal skills, high level of respectful professionalism in comportment with hospital leadership, patients, donors, foundations, team members
  • proficiency with personal computers, spreadsheet, graphic, and database programs and the set up of videoconferencing
