General Description:

The Research Associate, Bioanalytical Chemistry, will conduct preparative purification, analysis, characterization, and stability studies of antibodies, antibody-drug and antibody-nanoparticle conjugates. Significant experience in operating and maintaining HPLC equipment is critical, as well as understanding of various methods of separation (size-exclusion, reverse phase, hydrophobic interaction, and ion exchange) and detection (UV-VIS, fluorescence, refractive index, conductivity, light scattering). Knowledge of bioconjugation techniques, spectroscopic (NMR, mass spectrometry), and biochemical characterization techniques (cIEF, ELISA, Western blot, fluorescence polarization) is a plus. Experience with the entire line of Shimadzu hardware and software is highly desirable. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential. Organizational skills are very important as the candidate should be running multiple projects and multiple instruments in parallel.

PRISM is a non-profit, biomedical research institute focused on the development of innovative treatments for a wide spectrum of human diseases, including cancer. Located in downtown La Jolla, CA, PRISM's laboratory facilities combine advanced proteomics technologies, genomics and in vivo imaging to discover and validate novel therapeutic targets for cancer, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Knowledge of standard HPLC (normal and reverse-phase), size-exclusion chromatography, hydrophobic interaction chromatography
• Advanced knowledge of setup and maintenance of HPLC instrumentation (mostly Shimadzu, some Agilent)
• Instrument preparation and validation
• Independently handle and manipulate analytical samples of small molecule drugs and antibody-drug conjugates
• HPLC method development
• Stability studies of bioconjugates by HPLC and common biochemical techniques
• Scheduling requests from multiple research groups and maintaining recordkeeping.
• Generation of reports for multiple research groups
• Familiarity with various methods of biochemical characterization of biomolecules (cIEF, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western blot, fluorescence polarization assays) is a plus
• Knowledge of and ability to adhere to SOPs and common laboratory practices and procedures
• Drafting of SOPs and QC protocols for all analyzed chemical entities
• Maintain laboratory supply stocks
• Perform regularly assigned, standard laboratory duties

Qualifications:

• EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Pharmaceutical Sciences with the emphasis on analytical chemistry.
• EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of experience in these or related fields
• Computer literacy required
• Excellent communication skills are a must
• Good observation skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
