The AltaMed Institute for Health Equity (AIHE) was established in 2017 to advance health equity by identifying and removing barriers to optimal health. Reporting to the AIHE Director of Research, the Research Associate I is responsible for supporting AIHE Principal Investigators in carrying out particular research agendas. This will include staying abreast of current findings and methods relevant to given subject areas, assisting with grant and publication development and preparation, coordinating and carrying out select research project activities, assisting with organizational elements of the research team, and additional duties based on skill level and PI direction.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct and synthesize literature reviews for multiple purposes, including for the development of:
a. Research grant applications
b. Manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
c. Academic conference and other presentations
2. Help with preparation of materials for submission to funding agencies
3. Help with submission of manuscripts to journals
4. Project-specific duties, including (depending on the project):
a. Help with Institutional Review Board submissions
b. Managing and responding to project-related email
c. Coordination of cross-institution study team check-in meetings
d. Attend project meetings and presenting information as appropriate
e. Recruit study participants
f. Collect quantitative/qualitative study data
g. Conduct preliminary data summaries/analyses
h. Maintain accurate study records, safeguarding confidentiality and following appropriate privacy guidelines
i. Prepare progress reports for the PI and draft reports for funding agencies
j. Summarize/present project results for internal/external audiences
5. Update external-facing research team materials (e.g., bios, CVs, project summaries)
6. Help with outreach to current and potential community, healthcare, and academic partners
7. Attend and contribute to research team meetings
8. Participate in research team contributions to other AIHE and AltaMed initiatives
9. Create relevant reports and submit them to the director
10. Fulfill other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 2+ years relevant experience, including in the following areas:
- Strong record of productive contributions to a research team’s/PI’s research agenda
- Experience with research projects related to health, healthcare, equity, and/or related social sciences strongly preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity strongly preferred
