The Cedars-Sinai Regenerative Orthobiologics Center (ROC) is an establishment of the Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute, Department of Orthopedics, and the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute. ROC is a program for the systematic evaluation of orthobiologics, using Cedars-Sinai’s proteomics and mass cytometry technology combined with clinical outcome analysis of consented patients.
The Regenerative Orthobiologics Center mission is to keep patients healthy and active by evaluating and refining existing orthobiologic therapies and by discovering, developing and translating novel orthobiologics for musculoskeletal disorders. The Orthopedic Stem Cell Laboratory focuses on modeling musculoskeletal disorders in vitro and in vivo and developing stem cell and biological therapies for these disorders. The primary focus of the lab is degenerative disc disease and sports medicine-related injuries and chronic conditions.
Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and a Project Scientist, the Postdoc will plan and conduct experiments in vitro to manipulate induce pluripotent stem cells, combined with biomaterials in bioreactors and organ-on-chip systems and will manage in vivo regeneration applications with PI’s and lab staff’s support. This role focuses on promoting iPSC-derived stem cells differentiation toward therapeutic candidates for IVD degeneration, cartilage regeneration, meniscus repair, and tendon regeneration. The Postdoc will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout their training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols and will analyze and interpret data.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period.
Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
Execute and manage several of the Orthopedic Stem Cell Research Laboratory key projects (basic or preclinical), writes manuscripts for publications (Review and/or Research), develops experimental protocols and procedures, supervises animal and cadaver surgical procedures.
Contribute to research programs within CS KJ Institute/CSHS.
Conduct individual or collaborative research projects.
Monitors project/program progress.
Leads and assists in live animal studies and participate in surgical procedures to develop new methods and techniques.
Performs day-to-day bench research related to translational projects.
Develops, adapts, and implements new research techniques and protocols.
Presents results and represents the program at external and internal meetings.
Prepares publications (as author or co-author).
Education:
Doctorate Degree required. Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization, as applicable.
Experience and Skills:
Highly motivated and works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
Ability to function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians and students.
Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis, and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment.
Scheduling flexibility including evening, weekend and holiday rotation commitment. Travel may be required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
