Who is Fred Finch?


The Residential Counselor is responsible for daily operations of the program milieu, assuring a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment that allows for participants’ growth. The Residential Counselor is also responsible for safety practices, enforcing and monitoring policy and procedures. These duties may also include assisting participants with administration of their medications, and overseeing the daily living skills such as health, wellness, and hygiene of the participants and managing schedules or appointments. The Residential Counselor builds relationships with participants who have complex lives that may include drug and alcohol use. The Residential Counselor will provide services within a strengths-based, culturally-sophisticated, family-friendly environment that values respect, accountability, compassion, excellence, diversity, innovation, and integrity.

Possible shifts may look like this:

8a-430p, 430p-1a, 12a-830a

Weekdays, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications:

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends when needed.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary mental health team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental milestones of children or youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize de-escalation techniques that align with the trauma informed care model as part of intervention strategy for working with participants in crisis who are responding to triggers/stressors and/or demonstrating early indicators of distress.
  • Clean driving record; current CA Driver’s License required, or ability to obtain within 10 days after hired.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

  • B.A. Degree in social science discipline or two (2) years’ work experience.
  • Experience with target population (youth, young adults, intellectually disabled youth, etc.) and/or in a milieu setting.
  • One (1) year or more experience with program target population (intellectually disabled, homeless, teens or young adults, SED).
  • One (1) year or more experience with program modality (example: school-based, residential, mobile/community-based, assertive community treatment, wraparound, etc.)
