Job Description:
The Residential Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities that support regulated and non-regulated switched voice services, special access services, IP-based network services, operator and alarm system services, wireless voice and broadband services, wireline broadband services, video services, computer-based repair and networking. The Residential Service Technician reports directly to the Customer Operations Manager.
Job Duties:
- Installation, maintenance and repair of voice switching equipment (i.e. Nortel and Lucent), local loop and interoffice fiber multiplexer electronics, digital loop carrier equipment (i.e. AFC, Tellabs, and Calix), digital cross connect facilities, inter-company and inter-office trunk facilities, broadband equipment and other IP based protocol equipment.
- Installation, maintenance and repair of special access services, business and residence services, IP based protocol services and wireless broadband services.
- Installation, maintenance and repair of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) head-end antennas, encoder/decoder equipment and associated loop delivery platforms (FTTP, ADSL2+).
- Installation, maintenance and repair of Broadband Loop Carrier platforms (i.e. Occam).
- Installation, maintenance and repair of wireless voice and broadband equipment and services.
- Assist Plant Records Technician and field technicians with service orders and trouble tickets.
- Accurate daily time reporting and material usage reports.
- Computer hardware/software repair and networking.
- All other duties as assigned by the Network Supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- Valid California driver’s license and favorable DMV record.
- Must comply with all company policies and safety procedures.
- High School diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in a related field is desirable.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational/motivational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Basic computer keyboard and software skills (Excel, Word and other applications).
- Must have knowledge of digital theory, AC/DC theory, TDM, IP, DSL, and wireless.
- Industry specific certification is desirable (i.e.: Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, Linux, etc.).
- Telecommunications wiring color code competency.
- Ability to perceive differences in wire/cable colors.
- Three years of experience required.
- Actively participate in a team environment and practice the “Corporate and Spirit of 46 values.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

- Must be able to climb ladders, sit, bend, stoop, stand or walk for extended periods.
- Must be available to work overtime, varied shifts and assume on-call duties as required.
- Ability to work in temperature extremes ranging from +20o to +105o
- Ability to lift and/or pull up to 120 lbs.
