Position Description
Interview and examine patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. Consult with physicians to develop patient treatment plans. Perform diagnostic tests, such as measuring lung capacity. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development of respiratory therapy under general supervision.
  • Perform routine and intensive respiratory treatment and diagnostic testing.
  • Set up and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Attend continuing education programs to improve performance and maintain licensure.
  • Responsible for the orientation to respiratory therapy for new nurse son Inpatient, Emergency Department, and Mobile Intensive Care Unit.
  • Prepare annual and capital spending budgets for the department.
  • Develop and revise respiratory therapy department policies and procedures.
  • Maintain contract management for sleep lab services. Maintain staff credentials for sleep company to assure staff are aware of Story Medical policies. Maintain accreditation as needed.
  • Analyze and evaluate program services through an active, ongoing quality assurance program to improve quality of patient care/customer service.
  • Communicate with health care team and general public in a tactful and professional way to enhance the image of Story Medical.
  • Maintain effective communication with nursing staff, medical staff, and other hospital departments

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Takes call for equipment set up.
  • Performs paper work/documentation related to respiratory therapy services.

Position Requirements

  • Completion of an American Medical Association approved Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Certified or Registered through the National Board for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Considerable knowledge of respiratory therapy and intensive care procedures.
  • Knowledge of emergency equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Ability to adapt equipment to provide for the patient's care.
