JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: RN Supervisor FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Nursing - WNH Reports to: NHA


Position summary: Plan, organize and direct nursing service at Wharton Homes and Wellness Center. Control and evaluate the nursing service in order to meet the total nursing needs of the resident and to maintain a quality of service that will fulfill the objective of the nursing home.


Works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in the home. Promotes the residents' psychosocial well-being through meaningful relationship building and works with the household team to meet other social service needs of the resident and of the household, always providing support, friendship, and kindness for each of the household members. All tasks are performed in accordance with current standards, policies, guidelines and regulations and in a safe and efficient manner.


Essential skill and experience:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing; current Tennessee license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations, and communicative skills; auditory and visual skills; satisfactory completion of post-offer, pre-employment physical as required.
  • Proficient computer skills including word and excel.
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities

Preferred skill and experience:

  • A minimum of one year prior experience in long-term care preferred.

Reporting to this position: RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s (Caregivers)


Essential Duties:

  • Determine the kind and amount of nursing care needed to meet the needs of the resident and to achieve the objectives of the nursing home
  • Assign responsibility and delegate authority when staff changes occur
  • Carry on continuous evaluation of needs and services as concerns nursing care and consult with NHA.
  • Work with nursing personnel to continually upgrade and improve nursing care to residents
  • When necessary, fill out reports for the admittance, transfer or discharge of residents
  • Work with consultants, dietary, pharmacist, etc., and implement recommended changes
  • Participates in development of the Resident Care Plan Update Care Plans as directed by MDS Coordinator
  • Participate in in-service education programs
  • Assist and directs Household Nurses/Charge Nurses in carrying out their assignments
  • Review complaints and grievances and makes report to the NHA.
  • Use equipment and supplies as directed and be cautious of waste.
  • Promote effective working conditions, relationships with the administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the nursing home
  • Assists in keeping work area clean and organized, including resident care area
  • Implement resident care policies
  • Serves as admissions nurse
  • Performs lab draws needed per physician orders
  • Primary nurse to round with and assist Medical Director on visits
  • Coordinates with team leaders for scheduling
  • Responsible for payroll of reporting staff and payroll input in absence as needed.
  • Serves as Registered Nurse as needed.
  • Participates in chart and echart reviews.
  • Assist with all households needs as they occur.
  • Perform supervisor responsibilities including orienting, evaluating, disciplining employees according to company policy
  • Acts in the absence of Director of Nursing
  • Others duties as directed by the Administrator, Director of Nursing, or ADON.

  • Fully understand all aspects of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Responsible for promptly reporting to the director of nursing, or administrator incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents’ rights, following abuse procedure.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to odors, body excretions, and infections. Subject to bruises, scratches etc. from patients. The noise level is usually moderate. Significant amount of time at computer inputting data.
