Sailing Beach Lead

Job Summary: The Sailing Beach Lead is responsible for directing all daily operations at the sailing beach. Season begins in May and ends in October.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily workflow of the sailing beach
  • Supervise approximately 20 part time employees

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations at sailing beach including rentals, lessons and passes
  • Perform bi-weekly in-service training sessions for employees
  • Repair Park District vessels as needed and assist with patron vessels
  • Provide back-up coverage for all positions at the sailing beach
  • Make appropriate operational adjustments based on weather conditions
  • Monitor and fill out reports on weather conditions, equipment and daily department tasks
  • Perform pre, mid, and post season inventory and recommend equipment purchases
  • Enforce all area rules and regulations with consistency
  • Assist with park and facility cleanliness
  • Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors and team leaders as needed
  • Comply with established Park District and site procedures
  • Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and effective manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Three (3) years sailing experience required

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds
  • Holiday and weekend work is required
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, carry, and repeatedly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Preference will be given to applicants with current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, U.S. Sailing Instructor Certification, Safety Rescue and Support Certification, and/or Safe Power Boating Certification
