Position Title: School Age and Teen Program Coordinator

Reports to: School Age & Teen Programs Director FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $45,000-50,000

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The School Age and Teen Program Coordinator contributes to the establishment and maintenance of high-quality school age childcare and teen programs that provide a positive social learning environment for elementary school age children and teens that support the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have at least four years of experience working with elementary age children/teens and two year of supervisory experience in youth development and school age childcare.

Previous experience managing grant funding programming including, but not limited to, grant data management and reporting, grant staff team management and hands on community program work.

Have a strong understanding of Connecticut Common Core Standards and experience providing educational enrichment services to youth.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Maintaining current physical and TB test.

Current First Aid and CPR Certification, and Administration of Medication Training (Injectables and Oral).

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to fill in ratio as needed at program sites.

Certified State of Connecticut Head Teacher for School Age Childcare Programs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

 Provide leadership and support to assigned before and after school and teen programs. At minimum, bi-weekly visits and observations of assigned sites. Ensure that assigned sites are following policies and procedures and meeting quality standards.

 Manages and directs staff at all school age programs. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities.

 Works with School Age & Teen Programs Director to implement and supervise teen programs.

 Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

 Complete written observations, review with programs as needed, and meet to develop a plan for improvement.

 Assure site compliance with all Licensing mandates. Complete regular licensing checks of sites. Maintain licensing records, complete required licensing paperwork, submit licensing packets and compliance reports as needed.

Evaluate Site Directors of assigned programs bi-annually. Develops a plan of action for improvement as needed.

 Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.

 Develop strong relationships with principals, school staff and community partners. Responds to all school and parent inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

 Maintain records of staff Health & TB Statements, required certifications and their expirations. Plan certification courses as needed.

 Evaluate current curriculum and align new curriculum with Common Core Standards. Partner in the development of curriculum for the programs, including enrichment activities, cultural activities, and Kidzlit/Kidzmath clubs that align with common core standards. Ensures effective implementation at each site with ongoing quality assessment.

 Assist in monitoring day-to-day staffing of programs to ensure that programs remain within legal ratio of staff to participants. Substitute in programs as needed.

 Assist in the planning, implementation and supervision of special activities both in the Kids’ Korner department and as needed at interdepartmental YMCA special events.

 Collaborate with other community agencies to provide special programs for Kids’ Korner Sites.

 Plan, implement, and supervise holiday/vacation programs and snow day programs as assigned.

 Provide supervision and ratio support as assigned during an eight-week summer program.

 Must be a great advocate for the Y and speak positively about the Y and all its programs in the community.
