    Work Year Calendar and Hours
    • 10-month position (190 days / year), 7 hours per day
    • Daily Work Hours: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

    Salary
    • Support Salary Scale Grade S05: $18.29 – 19.40 per hour

    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.

    Role

    Under the direction of the administration and administrative secretary, this position provides secretarial support for a variety of functions within the school.

    Essential Functions

    Reporting directly to the School Administrator, the Secretary performs the following duties:
    • Answers telephone, takes messages, greets visitors, makes appointments, and gives information.
    • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance.
    • Types and enters data for letters, schedules, reports, forms, and other materials.
    • Effectively uses the automated purchasing system, student information system, and substitute calling system.
    • Maintains proficiency in the use of office technology to meet administrative needs.
    • Maintains filing systems, student records, attendance reports, logs, and field trip records.
    • Collects monies for various school purposes and keeps appropriate records of such funds.
    • Orders and receives supplies and checks invoices.
    • Assists in maintaining property accountability.
    • Assists in scheduling use of facilities.
    • Assists with registration and transfer of records.
    • Composes routine correspondence.
    • Distributes mail and supplies.

    Performs other duties as assigned by the School Administrator.

    Required Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
    • Demonstrates ability to effectively use word processing, database, spreadsheet, and email software.
    • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
    • Demonstrates ability to work under pressure and maintain flexibility.
    • Demonstrates strong human relations skills.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in business math.
    • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Five (5) years relevant office/clerical experience.
    • Demonstrates proofreading ability, and creation of a table in a word processing program.
    • Demonstrates strong human relations skills, with adults and students, which have created a positive and inviting work environment.
    • Demonstrates ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
    • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
