This is what you will do:

The Scientist I will join Injectable Drug Product Development group to support the development of Alexion’s biotherapeutic candidates. The Scientist I will design studies to test comparability of drug product from different batches, test compatibility of drug product with devices, and support drug product process development. This individual is expected to interact regularly with scientific staff in other Research & Development groups.


You will be responsible for:

  • Executing formulation studies for Alexion pharmaceuticals’ drug candidates and commercial products.
  • Supporting tech transfer activities for internal manufacturing and contract manufacturing sites.
  • Conducting analytical analyses to characterize aggregates, charge variants, and subvisible particles.
  • Writing internal technical reports on the executed studies.
  • Assisting in preparion of external regulatory submissions for the Alexion product candidates.
  • Participating in cross-functional meetings and other technical and team building activities.

You will need to have:

  • Understanding of chemistry and stability of biotherapeutics (e.g. protein and oligonucleotides).
  • Hands-on experience with analytical methods (e.g. LC, iCE, HIAC, microflow-imaging) and data analysis (e.g. Excel, Empower, JMP).
  • Ability to independently take initiative in problem solving and finding solutions to scientific challenges with broad scope.
  • Ability to lead portfolio and technology development projects and mentor others in areas of expertise.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting and adhere to timelines.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical engineering, or relevant field with 10+ years or MS with 6+ years of relevant experience or PhD in related area with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of the biotechnology products life cycle and factors impacting product stability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding the principle of risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of cGMP and quality guidelines.
