Security Guard - Full-time
Job description
Provides public safety and security support to students, employees, and visitors at all campus locations. Ensures the physical security and safety of the campus grounds and facilities. Patrols the grounds, monitors the school’s CCTV cameras, works special events, respond to incidents and aides College administrators and local authorities as necessary.
This position is primarily housed at the Tech Center campus, but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position.
The regular hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 2:30 PM - 10:00 PM.
This position is designated as Emergency/Essential Personnel by Blue Ridge CTC and is subject to scheduling or call-up during weather-related closures, emergencies or on an as-needed basis.
- Performs foot and vehicular patrols of interior and exterior locations on campus.
- Monitors the surveillance camera (CCV) and alarm systems.
- Monitors access control.
- Reports any illegal misconduct, crimes, suspicious activity/persons or hazards on campus to supervisor or appropriate authority.
- Responds to recognized or reported emergencies (Rapid Response Team-medical emergencies, evacuation of campus, interpersonal conflict).
- Provides customer service to visitors, staff and students-information about campus functions.
- Summons assistance by two-way radio or other devices.
- Prepares student and employee IDs and issues vehicle parking permits (Main Campus).
- Annotates log book, and promptly and thoroughly completes incident reports.
- Provides safety escort services.
- Opens and closes College facilities based on the College’s operating schedule and assists in campus lock downs.
- Provides parking lot and traffic assistance based upon need or assignment.
- Performs daily mail pick-up and delivery when assigned to the Tech Center.
- In the absence of the primary & secondary Receivers, acts in a tertiary role. In this capacity, is certified by the college to receive all packages destined for Tech Center recipients.
- Performs related duties as assigned or as directed.
- High School diploma/GED
Experience
- Security, law enforcement, or similar position, including service in the US military – 1 year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic Security and/or Law Enforcement principles similar to those acquired while serving as a member of a local, county, state, federal or military law enforcement agency, or equivalent post within a private security entity.
- Visual acuity observe and accurately identify individuals and vehicles on CCTV surveillance cameras, and to complete incident reports
- Skilled in Report Writing
- Oral and Written Communication
- General Computer Skills
- Ability to de-escalate tense situations that arise, and maintaining a calm but deliberate
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Certifications/Licensure Required
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Certified in Basic First Aid or ability to achieve after hire
- CPR and AED techniques, or be able to achieve these certifications shortly after reporting for duty.
- Upon hire, employee will be trained and certified in the carriage, safe-handling, deployment, and storage of OC-pepper spray.
