About the Position

The Seed Analyst II position serves as a lead to Seed Analysts in the seed lab by assigning and reviewing work for accuracy and completion. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in performing analysis of a variety of Agricultural crops and vegetables, as well as be able to train and oversee general lab operations and give leadership and work direction to Seed Analyst. Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as lead worker to seed analyst by assigning and reviewing work for accuracy and completion.

2. Understands and demonstrates the germination test requirements and purity test separation procedures.

3. Directs activities of germination and/or purity section as required.

4. Assists in training new seed analysts and may be required to travel to attend trainings.

5. Answers inquiries from public and industry concerning seed purity and germination.

6. Maintains and cleans equipment needed to perform analysis.

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties numerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school with, preferably, a laboratory course in biology or chemistry.

2. Requires association of Seed Analysts (AOSA) accreditation for purity or germination.

3. Requires two (2) years of experience in laboratory seed analysis.

4. Requires successful completion of an agency sponsored training program or an additional year of experience in laboratory seed analysis.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to successfully pass a background check.

2. Requires the ability to travel when required.

3. Requires the ability to lift and carry job related objects weighing up to 75 lbs.

4. Requires that ability to pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug and alcohol screening.
