Self-Pay Collections Specialist, BinghamtonUnited Health Services is seeking a Self-Pay Collections Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle Self-Pay Team in Binghamton, NY. This position will be the main concierge pertaining to Patient/Self Pay collections including patients without insurance and those that have balances after insurance. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Self-Pay Collections Specialist Overview
The Self-pay Collection Specialist generates revenue by monitoring and pursuing payment on all unpaid and delinquent patient accounts in a timely manner; and maintaining daily and monthly productivity goals to maximize cash flow. This position will be the Main concierge pertaining to Patient/Self Pay collections including patients without insurance and those that have balances after insurance. In this position, you must enjoy talking on the phone to patients/customers and in a professional manor while helping our patients understand the self-pay regulations, functions, and responsibility for past and future appointments for services at UHS. Compassion, Accurate Communication, and conflict resolution are all key attributes to being successful in this position.
Self-Pay Collections Specialist Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Responsible for coordinating collections from patients regarding past due balances
Assist setting patients up on payment plans to ensure maximum collection
Excellent Professional skills both written and spoken. Must be able to explain situations to patients, and update management on trends or Patient Concerns
Call average of 50 to 100 patients per day based on supervisor requirements and accounts assigned
Coordinates with patients to help with all their self-Pay concerns and obligations for services provided and a self-pay liability due
Takes incoming calls from patients and staff regarding account balances and statements
Reviews outstanding patient accounts to determine account balance when questions arise from coworkers/ other departments
Provides clear and accurate documentation/notes of all contacts with any internal or external persons concerning patient accounts
Turning delinquent accounts over to collection agency for further follow-up.
Quickly becomes familiar with duties and performs them independently, accurately, efficiently, promptly, recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care
Research returned patient address report for corrected addresses and updates in practice management system
Regular attendance and punctuality.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Ensures that all processing and reporting deadlines are consistently achieved
Sends out collection letters and correspondence
Perform any other functions as required by management.

Position Qualifications
Minimum:
High school diploma or GED
Five to seven (5-7) years’ experience within a collection agency or healthcare system setting
Experience with computerized billing software, interpreting Insurance explanation of benefits, and superior Patient Customer service
Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and CPT codingWorking knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and CPT coding
Preferred:
A minimum of two to three (2-3) years’ Patient Billing Experience
Associates + 2 years’ Experience
OR
Bachelor’s in Communication, Accounting, or Business Management
