THE ROLE
As a Senior Chief Engineer in Body/Structures you will lead the development of innovative Body in White (BIW) components and chassis structures to achieve best-in-class vehicle structural, Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) and crash performance. You will work with cutting edge automotive technologies including aluminum and hybrid structures to assure designs meet customer requirements, corporate objectives are safe, and can be manufactured and produced economically. Coordinate activities for projects to ensure that they meet customer expectations

Prepares schedules in order to ensure the customer receives quick results

Analyzes incoming designs to be sure the design can be manufactured

Determine whether customer requirements have been satisfied and evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability

Operates a work environment in which subordinates know their authorities and responsibility. Assigns workloads to challenge and strengthen employees

Determines priorities for items to be completed

Assistance is given to others and utilizes motivation techniques to ensure that projects are completed on schedule

Defines program objectives and requirements to both customer and suppliers
-
Contacts other departments to ensure that all questions have been answered
-
Analyzes feedback from customer and suppliers regarding performance
-
Assume engineering responsibility for assigned program
-
Provide leadership to a large technical staff to ensure program success
-
Prepare plans and assign projects and responsibilities to subordinates
-
Conduct performance reviews of subordinates and recommend position or salary changes
-
Maintain effective communication with suppliers, customers, and internal departments concerning technical issues affecting the program
-
Provide management to technical staff including resource planning, scheduling, and administration
-
Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted with the framework of company policies and procedure

To be able to attain a commercial driver’s license if required to accomplish assigned projects
-
Provides assistance in service activities and manual preparation

Work closely with CAE teams interpreting and using analysis results to guide and evolve the design
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
-
12-plus years related experience
-
Experience with automotive body structures and chassis design
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
-
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
-
Expertise in vehicle high volume body-in-white and/or closures design engineering
-
Knowledge and ability to integrate state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods into product concepts and designs including familiarity with GD&T and dimensional engineering

Working knowledge of aluminum structure, bondments, and joining techniques
-
Experience in product development, from concept through prototyping to full rate production
