We have an exciting opportunity here at Ameriprise as a Sr. Counsel! This role will provide legal advice, transaction and strategic support regarding customer accounts, products, services and operations and other legal matters relevant to the line of business supported. Develop strong business partner relationships and make consistent recommendations for risk mitigation strategies that stay in sync with company and industry practices and that align with the growth and success of the business in its provision of client service. Responsibilities

Responsibilities would include providing timely advice and support to the business unit supported. This includes reviewing proposals and agreements and, in some instances, draft agreements for the growth of the business. Gather information, provide analysis of legal and regulatory issues, and suggest strategies that provide solutions for clients and the business consistent with prudent financial and regulatory risk mitigation. Support for the business will require the development of direct relationships with the business and high level of communication with the others in the GCO that have similar client responsibilities

Required Qualifications

  • Law Degree from an Accredited Law School with 3-5 years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Proven understanding of both general principles of law and regulations and those applicable to core practice area(s).
  • Proven drafting, research, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate results to appropriate audiences and suggest risk assessed alternative courses of action
  • Ability to apply legal knowledge and analytical abilities to address business problems and aid in decision-making in a commercial environment.
  • Ability to master new bodies of legal knowledge as regulations and business objectives evolve.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience preferred.

New York Residents Only: The estimated base salary for this role is $158,500 - $213,900 / year. Base salaries are determined in part based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
