Job description
Duties include assisting customers with checking out and registering for library cards; answering phones; taking payments; advising and assisting with Library resources such as online databases, library catalog and other technical resources; processing various reports; aiding with checking in, unloading, sorting and shelving library materials; assisting with makerspace technology; teaching classes and participating in outreach activities; and enforcing library policies and procedures to ensure safety of customers, staff and materials. Duties may also include assisting with projects, collection maintenance, displays, and monthly bulletin boards. Dependent upon assignment, duties may also include training staff members and volunteers; supporting reader’s advisory services; updating and maintaining patron registration files and system-wide supplies; responding to customer inquiries and disputes; responding to the library’s collection agency regarding customer inquiries and disputes; and / or processing and reviewing daily cash reports and deposits. Duties typically will require lifting up to 60 pounds frequently. Irving Public Library’s mission is to provide access to information for lifelong learning and promote the enjoyment of reading. An Associate degree or equivalent and two years of relevant experience required. Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Hours vary and will include some evenings and weekends.
