In a time of exciting transformation for Otis, continuing the company’s path of change, our Engineering organization is hiring for a Senior Model-Based Design Engineer (MBD) within our Farmington Hills, Michigan Center of Excellences for Embedded Systems. In this role, you will be involved in the research, development, and deployment of control and diagnostic algorithms as part of embedded software applications that control elevator motion, operation, electric drives, and safety. Our goal is to provide reliable, secure, elevator functionality that provides value to our internal and external customers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead key model-based design activities including algorithm and software development / deployment

Mentor junior MBD developers and adjacent teams in the application of model-based design methods and tools

Develop models (features) that satisfy customer / system requirements

Ensure compliance to safety requirements, regulatory requirements, local building codes, and internal company policy

Ensure efficient execution of features by using auto code generation

Support continuous improvement of MBD tools and processes

Design and verify systems within the virtual elevator

Use MIL/SIL/HIL testing to verify algorithm functionality and robustness

Support the development of Standard Work for the use of the above model-based algorithm development, tools and processes

Contribute to new features and products through the Otis innovation platform

We are looking for someone interested in designing algorithms that connect Otis vertical transportation to the rest of the world. We are making smart devices and need someone who is innovative, creative, and skilled in developing solutions at or faster than the pace of the technology around us.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
-
Minimum 5 years post graduate experience in industry developing algorithms using model-based design methods and tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink)
-
Professional experience deploying controls and diagnostic algorithms for production applications.

Professional experience interfacing and/or developing embedded hardware interface functions to application algorithms
-
Must be highly motivated, a self-starter, agile thinker, who excels at working collaboratively in a team environment

Highly effective communicator
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Experience working with rapid control prototyping systems (e.g., dSPACE MicroAutoBox)

Professional experience defining system requirements and delivering production models and/or software

Safety Integrity Level system development experience

Familiar with and experience working with ICE 61508 or ISO 26262 standards

Professional experience programming in C/C++ and testing of control software applications for distributed embedded system

Experience developing automated deployed tests using LabVIEW, dSPACE, Speedgoat or an equivalent test platform

Experience developing models of physical systems (plant model) for closed loop testing of control and diagnostic algorithms (e.g., in Simulink/Simscape)

Experience working on Agile teams
