Job Summary

The Senior Patient Safety Specialist (SPSS) participates in the implementation of the Patient Safety Plan throughout Harris Health System. The SPSS supports the Patient Safety Director with serious reportable event investigation, training and collaborating with organization staff to streamline and improve processes leading to improved patient safety. Additionally, the specialist will manage grievance investigation and response, taking call for Risk & Patient Safety emergencies, and assist with oversight, evaluation and improvements to regulatory compliance in areas of patient safety. The SPSS completes mandatory reporting requirements to local, state, and federal agencies as delegated and uses recognized methods to identify gaps in processes and assists departments in implementing strategies to increase the delivery of safe patient care. The SPSS applies expert clinical knowledge, experience and critical thinking skills to conduct thorough investigations of patient safety events.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree:
a) Bachelor's (BSN)
b) Master's in Nursing or healthcare related field (preferred)

Licenses & Certification:
a) RN
b) CPPS / CPHRM / CPHQ: Required (one of them)

Work Experience:
a) 5 Years of Experience: Clinical patient care required
b) 2 Years of Experience: Charge Nurse (preferred)

Management Experience:
a) 2 Years of Experience: Manager or above (preferred)

Communication Skills:
a) Above average Verbal Communication (Heavy Public Contact)
b) Exceptional Verbal (Public Speaking)
c) Writing/ Correspondence
d) Writing/ Reports

Proficiencies:
a) MS Word
b) MS PowerPoint
c) MS Excel
d) MS Outlook
