This is what you will do:

The Senior Program Manager is responsible for managing the strategic and operational planning and decision-making processes within Alexion’s Global Program Teams (GPTs). The Senior Program Manager works closely with GPTLs and/or senior-level GPM, along with the functional experts in GPTs to develop a project timeline, dashboards, budget forecasting, and status reports for senior management in a timely and effective manner, ensuring that any changes are properly communicated to the Global Program Team Leads (GPTLs) and appropriate stakeholders. The Senior Program Manager will demonstrate resourcefulness and problem-solving skills in identifying, monitoring, and helping to mitigate risks and issues such that development programs stay on track, as the successful delivery of development milestones and goals ties to the overall longevity of Alexion’s pipeline and commercial infrastructure.


You will be responsible for:

  • Partnering with cross functional GPT members to deliver key milestones and activities
  • Maintaining and controlling the program schedule, tracking progress made on tasks, owning scenario planning timelines foe decision making, identifying activities on the critical path, and communicating the status of the project to appropriate stakeholders
  • Working closely with finance and GPT members to establish and track budgets
  • Organizing and conducting program team meetings, taking minutes, and tracking action items to completion
  • Maintaining and organizing all files related to a program (e.g., timelines, minutes, related documents)
  • Ensuring projects and project teams are properly set up, team roles and responsibilities are clear, deliverables and risks are identified and documented, detailed project schedules are in place, and resource allocations and appropriately managed
  • Identifying issues and mitigation plans early and escalating appropriately
  • Applying program management best practices in the planning, alignment, initiation, execution, control, and closing of projects

You will need to have:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of the processes in drug development and market access relating to required development plans, task durations, cost, and product value assessment
  • Must be well organized and have strong attention to detail with an ability to deal with competing priorities; high level of problem solving capability and business acumen, ability to balance competing priorities and quickly and objectively drive the team towards a path which maximizes value
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective program management excellence in terms of setting program plans for the lifecycle of a program from discovery through launch
  • Mastery of SharePoint, Microsoft Project, and knowledge of MS Project Server
  • Technical proficiency in the use of program planning tools and systems (e.g. Microsoft Project, resource forecasting, decision analytics, budgets)
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office software including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint
  • B.S. degree minimum with higher level degree preferred with 5+ years of industry experience, 3 of which should be in working in / managing cross-functional teams
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solve; engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours

We would prefer for you to have:

  • 5+ years of commercial, operations or project management experience within biopharma industry with at least 3 years of managing complex projects
  • MBA/M.S./M.A., or equivalent level of experience
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) qualifications or similar formal training preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Planisware preferred
