Purpose


As part of AVANGRID Networks effort to develop large scale transmission projects, supporting access for future clean energy, the Sr. Project Manager – Substation and Transmission Line will be leading the Development, Engineering & Construction of major Transmission projects development and proposals across United States.

Responsibility includes meeting corporate goals for capital investment, managing Construction Work in Progress, and energization of projects. Must manage team performance to maximize the effectiveness of capital budget delivery considering the environment, operating efficiency, regulatory, CWIP and operational needs. Identifying low-cost solutions for new project construction; market analysis; develop project cost/schedule estimates; and manage negotiations and contracts to engineer, procure, and construct projects safely and efficiently.

Coordinate activities of project team members including engineers, construction managers, and external contractors. Facilitates the work of external contractors and other internal business areas. Holds contractors accountable for performance. Holds project team members accountable for results. Responsible for the overall project control and reporting, providing leadership and coordination of the scheduling, cost controlling and reporting processes and functions. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and in conformance to quality and engineering standards. This position is based in Rochester, NY or Portland, ME on a Hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities


  • Participates in project team scheduling and budgetary planning processes. Informs management and project teams regarding cost and schedule performance variances and corrective action required.
  • Works within the project unit, managing internal and external project resources. Sets unit goals and direction to align and undertakes action plans, program management to accomplish goals.
  • Analyzes project unit performance and initiates actions to control scope, schedule, and cost performance. Proactive approach to overseeing work measures progress and takes actions to ensure budgets and deadlines are achieved. Approves project plans, executes contract strategies to undertake work and controls and authorizes expenditures. Initiates actions to ensure compliance with a project management and quality management processes and procedures. Assures that projects are completed within the approved scope, schedule, and budget
  • Considers innovative ways to undertake work, promoting automation and efficiencies in day-to-day workstreams. Manage document control.
  • Provides recommendations on policies and goals desired and implements new/revised processes and procedures according to established guidelines
  • Responsible for Project accountability overview, making sure that it complies with FERC, NERC and any other applicable regulation.
  • Responsible for ensuring the risk control system: Risk definition, cost, and the Mitigation Action analysis
  • Attendance to Executive management meetings, providing and presenting reports and cost-schedule-risk views as required.
  • Support bid solicitations and project development evaluating engineering, procurement and construction factors that lead to low-cost solutions in a highly competitive environment.
  • Proactively identify and perform special projects that innovatively solve complex problems with broad impact to the business.

Skills and Requirements


  • Ability to mobilize team members to deliver projects on time and under budget.
  • Expert in integrating Scheduling IT tools and software: MS Project or Primavera P6 with costs and resource requirements.
  • Expert in risk management and mitigation plans.
  • Expert in utilizing MS Excel for data analysis, budgeting and planning and optimizing schedules.
  • Understanding of quality assurance processes and implement with project structure.
  • Knowledge of main configuration and general arrangements of networks (substations, overhead lines and underground lines) infrastructures.
  • Experienced in contract negotiations and supplier management
  • Proven experience obtaining siting permits
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions
  • Deep knowledge of Construction for utility environments or large corporations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts and present information effectively at all levels
  • Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technolog


Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (Engineering and/or project management preferred) from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited university/college required and 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in developing utility scale infrastructure projects.
  • Or more than 20 years relevant experience in energy industry required.
  • HVAC up to 500kV and HVDC project management experience.
  • MBA and PMP, Preferred
