Job description

The Non-Resident Senior Scholar is a senior internationally recognized expert in the nonproliferation and export control field who advises CNS staff, particularly the CNS DC Executive Director, at a high level as called upon and contributes to active projects, including participating in relevant CNS programs and events in the US and abroad, as available.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, and is not benefits-eligible. As assigned, the incumbent will work approximately 650 hours total during a calendar year (approximately 33% of an FTE).

When called upon, the Non-Resident Senior Fellow will serve as a senior adviser to the Executive Director, CNS, Washington, DC, Office and contribute to and participate in individual CNS programs and projects on an ad hoc basis, as may be authorized by project principal investigators and consistent with applicable funding and budgets. Contributions may include supporting development of program materials, reports, and whitepapers, participating in CNS training programs and events in the DC office and abroad as a speaker or contributing expert, and other duties in support of CNS projects relevant to the fellow’s expertise.

  • Supports development of materials, reports, and concept notes for CNS programs as appropriate.
  • Participates in and organizes CNS events and programs as needed and as relevant to the fellow’s expertise.
  • Promotes CNS work through briefings to visitors and sponsors and through media outreach.
  • Represents CNS at meetings, programs, and conferences as appropriate.
  • Performs other relevant duties as requested.

Compensation for this position begins at $48.46 per hour (CNS5A)

Requirements

  • The post holder will hold a PhD in a relevant field or an equivalent advanved degree
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Internationally recognized expert in the field of nonproliferation.
  • History of relevant publications in the nonproliferation field.
  • Excellent project and event development and implementation skills.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the field, including prior experience directing an office, program, or organization in the nonproliferation field.

This position requires light to moderate physical effort and the ability to work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
