Do you love to create content that delivers technical information in a clear and engaging way?
We are a small but lively education team dedicated to supporting the global research community in their use of software tools and analysis platforms developed by the Data Sciences Platform (DSP) at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
This role involves creating technical documentation and scientific tutorials for researchers using
Terra
. Terra is a scalable platform for biomedical research and your efforts will help drive the usage of the system. In the coming months, Terra will expand to include Azure users. Terra has been operating within the Google Cloud for years, and will soon expand to serve users of the Azure cloud platform.
Working with various development teams at the Broad Institute and partner institutes, you will be responsible for carrying out multiple projects, and ensuring that
documentation
is kept relevant as the Terra platform evolves. This will include testing current practices for use with Azure technology, and developing new methodologies to serve Azure uses.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about creating content that incorporates principles of learning and education and can be understood by diverse audiences, as well as giving live instruction of this content for audiences of various sizes and disciplines.
Applicants for this role must submit at least two relevant writing samples along with their application.
TYPICAL DUTIES

Work with Product and Engineering teams to learn about new software features and translate what you learn to users through the appropriate communication channels.

Create and update tutorial documentation that give scientific examples of what researchers can do on Terra. This includes breaking down analysis methods.

Lead webinars and workshop sessions for Terra users.

Apply analysis methods on test datasets to better understand how they work, aiding in your ability to create adequate and useful tutorials and documentation.

Publish documentation on time by working with stakeholders to understand deadlines.

Provide editorial reviews to other writer’s work

Review different communication channel metrics and determine how they can be used to improve the experience of learning about Terra
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Demonstrated experience in creating technical or scientific documentation and support materials.

Knowledge of cloud computing, especially Microsoft Azure.

Experience giving presentations and workshops to large audiences.

Working experience with bioinformatics tools or experience using Python, R, or other programming languages.

Excellent written, expository, and verbal communications skills.

Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and people skills.

Self starter, able to set priorities, and work independently.

Capacity for growing into leadership.

Previous experience running analysis pipelines is a plus.

Ability to think and work across different subject areas at a high level, simultaneously.

Minimum 7 years working experience. Master’s degree or PhD in computational biology, computer science, or other related fields is a plus.
