Cornell Recreational Services offers a wide variety of fitness, wellness, sports and open recreation activities for Cornell students, staff, faculty, retirees and their spouses/partners. Through our broad-based programs, we strive to promote a healthy and holistic lifestyle throughout the campus community. The Cornell Fitness Centers operates five different fitness centers across campus, typically offers 95+ group fitness classes a week, and works with many of departments across campus to meet fitness and wellness needs for the Cornell University community.
The Service Desk Coordinator assists the Fitness Center Operations team in Recreational Services with the overall supervision of the Noyes Services desk in Noyes Community Recreation Center. As the first point of contact in the Center, this role utilizes outstanding customer service in interacting with all patrons, providing information, distributing equipment, and ensuring that the facility is being used in accordance with safety rules and regulations. In addition, the position oversees various student staff, including scheduling and training, to ensure the facility is operating in a smooth and consistent manner. The Service Desk Coordinator also supports the department social media accounts, including creation of promotional materials.
Success in this role includes having a commitment to safety and security in the Noyes Recreation Center, with the purpose of all patrons feeling welcome and secure in our facility. A customer-service oriented mindset is critical to success in this position, ensuring that all individuals who enter the Center have a positive experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a drive to create a fun and exciting atmosphere for the Cornell Campus Community, will make this individual an excellent addition to the Fitness Center Operations team.
Please note: This is a full-time position. This is a 9-month position that is off from June 15 - August 15, and for three weeks over winter break, and 1 week after commencement. Normal working schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
-
High School Diploma and 1-2 years’ experience in a facility or service area supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience

American Red Cross Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification at start of employment or within 30 days of hire
-
Excellent customer service, written, and verbal communication skills
-
Basic computer skills including Microsoft office, e-mail, spreadsheets, and social media applications

Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
-
Associates degree in Recreation
-
Recreational facility and supervision experience
-
Experience with recreational activities and athletic equipment, and/or working with college age students

Marketing and event promotion experience with a focus on social media
