OVERVIEW:
The Program Aide is responsible for the safety and security of the clients and volunteers who are in the facility. Treating all those receiving shelter with dignity and understanding, the Program Aide implements the rules of the Shelter Program fairly and equitably. The Program Aide cannot participate in any form of substance abuse or show evidence of abuse while performing their duties or wile present on Salvation Army property. The Program Aide must show respect for other employees, associate, clients, and the goals and objectives of The Salvation Army. Any special or unusual concern is to be brought to the immediate attention of the Supervisor/Director.
DUTIES
  • Mediate problems with Shelter population.
  • Maintain all program materials in an appropriate manner.
  • Provide information and referral to social service programs as needed. Or refer to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Relieve Front Desk Reception/Intake when requested and back-up to the Front Desk on phones.
  • Maintain ongoing professional relationships in all interpersonal contacts (taking care to maintain client confidentiality).
  • Enforce policies and procedures of the Berberian HTLC.
  • Must possess he ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Have the ability to interact with volunteers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement.
  • Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work.
  • Have the ability to maintain a self-motivated schedule.
  • Assist with arranging all resident support and education groups.
  • Provide support to the VA Case Manager with regards to weekly review meetings with clients regarding their case management plans as directed.
  • Provide assistance to the VA Case Manager in maintaining client files and documentation of all services as directed.
  • Assist the VA Case Manager with reports related to the contractual requirements of the program.
  • Provide support and assistance to the VA Case Manager with the completion of required statistics, reports, and logging pertinent information in a timely fashion.
  • Provide support and assistance as directed by the VA Case Manager in maintaining a working relationship with all referring agencies.
  • Able to assist with projects as directed meeting deadlines set by the VA Case Manager.
  • Attend special and seasonal events held at the Center for the non-VA Transitional program as directed.
  • Provide support to the VA Case Manager in scheduling and supervising community and public relations events concerning the VA transitional program as directed.
  • Assist the program team as directed by the VA Case Manager in the review of clients for the various programs of the shelter as directed.
  • Provide the VA Case Manager with assistance or support for the VA Transitional governance meeting as directed.
  • Assist the VA Case Manager with the follow up with clients leaving the program for six months as directed.
  • Attend all staff meetings assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED and/or work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required.
  • Must have a valid CA license.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain certification in First Aide and CPR.
  • Should have crisis intervention and non-violent mediation skills.
  • Knowledge of Salvation Army practices and organization desireable.
  • Must have the ability to address multiple projects in a s time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to interact with volunteers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Possess self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering the quality of work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, laundry baskets and reach overhead
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in fashion that others can understand
  • Ability to hear and understand
  • Ability to see at distance and close range
  • Ability to work outdoors, if needed, in all weather situations
