Overview:
The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator I-II is responsible for all shipping and receiving functions, including the proper handling of shipments containing hazardous materials (biological, chemical, and radioactive). Duties also include: verifying packages are received and reconciling against purchase orders, routing incoming packages to appropriate departments/locations, preparing items for shipment ensuring shipping compliance, overseeing the work of shipping personnel performing related work, tracking and updating the status of incoming and outgoing shipments, administrating off-site records storage and retrieval, processing the daily incoming and outgoing mail, and contributing to various Facilities department and other support services.
Responsibilities:
  • Receives all incoming shipments and packages. Logs all packages into package management system. Inspects incoming shipments for damage or defects.
  • Reconciles package identification information against purchase orders in procurement management program. Reports and investigate discrepancies
  • Delivers/distributes packages to requisitioning departments. Confirms delivery and notify recipients via email
  • Prepares domestic and international shipments. Ensures outgoing shipments use proper packaging materials and labels and have correct commercial invoices and/or bills of lading information
  • Interfaces with internal shippers to provide oversight on the preparation of outgoing shipments from the various laboratories and departments. Acts as a resource for shipping and packaging information and document preparation
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1-3 years relevant work experience in shipping and receiving
  • Prior training or the ability to learn the proper handling and shipping of hazardous materials and waste per regulations from the Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and other federal and state environmental regulations
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, reaching, grasping, and sitting. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 100 pounds and operate a pallet jack to move shipments on pallets
  • High level of dependability, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving, process improvement and customer service abilities with good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills in Word and Excel and a knowledge of working with Apps on a smart phone and mobile devices
