ULG Skilled Trades is seeking Experienced Shop Structural Fitters/Weldersin St. Louis, MO.

JOB DETAILS

PAY: $26-$28/hour

PER-DIEM: $630/week

HOURS: 50-60 hours/week (5x10 or 5x12)

DURATION: Several months

STARTS: MONDAY, 1-9-2023

· MUST HAVE experience working with heavy structural iron. Fitting and tack welding parts of steel beams and columns.

· MUST BE Structural welders w/ Flux core experience; can cross over from shipyards, mines and heavy structures

· MUST UTELIZE the FCAW process in flat and horizontal positions, requiring attention to detail. Material is all carbon steel, mainly beams and columns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Dress metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
• Operate grinders, arc air, cutting torch and other hand-held tools.
• Layout, fit-up, and weld plates, clip angle, channel and other misc. items to structural beams and columns.
• Determine required equipment and welding method to complete complex or difficult assignments
• Read blueprints to determine measurements
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
• Lays out, positions, and tack welds parts and assemblies according to specifications
• Fabricate and fit steel pieces
• Perform full penetration in the 1G and 2G position
• Position work pieces using an overhead crane or a jib crane
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
• May be involved in safety committees or initiatives

WELD TEST IMPORTANT DETAILS:

1. 2G test = A 90-minute test in the horizontal position. There will be two 1” plates with a 3/8” backing bar. Cap height is not to exceed 1/8”

2. Fillet Test = Two 3/8” plates in a T-Joint position. A 5/16” weld is expected without manipulating the wire movement.

3. Please listen to the instruction provided by the Quality Manager

4. When performing the root pass on the 2G test we advise performing the root in 2 passes and absolutely no grinding allowed
