SUMMARY
Works on metal and/or glass fabrication, assembly and/or packaging. Skilled in two or more aspects of glass and metal fabrication and able to work without immediate supervision. Loads and unloads trucks of glass and metal material. Stocks material in warehouse or pulls material for shipment. Cuts and fabricates metal materials per specifications. Cross-trained in two or more areas of fabrication, assembly, glazing, and/or packaging.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
  • Works on metal and glass fabrication, assembly and/or packaging. Skilled in two or more aspects of glass and metal fabrication and able to work without immediate supervision.
  • Uses knowledge and experience to read shop drawings and blue prints.
  • Loads and off-loads trucks by hand, forklift and overhead crane.
  • Cuts, fabricates, and assembles window framing material per work order, using manual and power hand tools.
  • Assembles framing material, using manual and power hand tools.
  • Inspects and packages frame prior to shipment.
  • Stages product by hand, dolly and forklift.
  • Pulls and stocks inventory per work order by hand and, if certified, use of forklift, scissors lift and overhead crane.
  • Handle insulated glass units. Sort, handle and install into frame using appropriate gaskets, accessories and sealant.
  • Stages glass to A-frame by hand or overhead crane.
  • Meets established daily productivity goals. Reports obstacles to team leader.
  • Participates in 5S by organizing and cleaning work area.
  • Participates in creating a team environment by assisting other shop workers as requested.
  • Creates a safe work environment for self and others by following all safety procedures, wearing company provided PPE, and participating in safety suggestion program.
  • Applies Continuous Improvement principles in own work performance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED; and one to two years of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to ask questions of supervisor, listen and follow verbal instructions, communicate verbally with co-workers, read all safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to read a tape measure and perform simple mathematics in regard to measurements of length.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to follow instructions furnished orally, in writing, or in diagram form. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria.

Must be able to walk, bend, twist, squat and climb on an occasional basis, stand and talk on a frequent basis and use one’s fingers and reach on a continuous basis.
Bending, squatting, climbing and twisting are required on an occasional basis. Pushing up to 60 pounds and pulling up to 30 pounds is also occasionally required.
Lifting up to 40 pounds is required frequently.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Exposure to normal working conditions in an office and shop environment.
There is exposure to constant or intermittent sound of pitch sufficient to cause distraction. There is exposure to vibration when using power tools and equipment. There is occasional exposure to chemicals, dust, and fumes. Personal protective equipment is required while working.
