About the Role: We are looking for a Textile Specialist to join our SITKA ® Gear Fabrics team who will be key in developing innovative materials that support our mission to inspire and enable the life of the connected hunter. In this role, you will be the go-to materials expert, working closely with Product Line Managers, Product Developers, Sourcing, and Materials Suppliers.

This position offers multiple work arrangements: on-site at our facility in Bozeman, Montana, hybrid or fully remote work allowed in most locations within the U.S., depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.*

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and qualify seasonal material developments with the product team
  • Collaborate with product development, product line managers, and sourcing to build new concepts and support in innovating SITKA to be the best it can be
  • Research the market and technological landscape to be the source of the latest in most-advanced textiles for SITKA end uses
  • Drive continuous improvement of SITKA's material library and keep a palette of materials that keeps SITKA as the industry leader in innovation
  • Establish, iterate, and maintain raw material testing specifications & requirements with material suppliers
  • Own data collection and data validation of all of SITKA's material attributes in the PLM system for reporting, environmental impact, and supply chain analysis
  • Communicate with internal and external key stakeholders to present current state of SITKA materials and future states
  • Ensure SITKA’s materials suppliers are meeting all necessary ESG requirements set by the brand
  • Build materials at the highest level of sustainable manufacturing and sourcing
  • Meet calendar deadlines and clearly communicate status of developments along the way

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Engineering, Textiles, Polymer Chemistry, or other related fields OR Bachelors Degree in another discipline with equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in material development, engineering, textile design, supply chain/sourcing, product development, and/or quality management
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with natural & synthetic textiles across knits and wovens from raw material, fiber & yarn characteristics to fabric formation and finishing techniques
  • Experience working with worldwide supply chains to develop and deliver top quality products
  • Experience with testing requirements and standards to maintain best quality, and maintain raw material specifications with material suppliers
  • Self-starter that can handle ambiguity and possess a curiosity to explore the material innovation space
  • Excellent attention to detail in planning and organization with both with internal cross-functional partners as well as maintaining thriving external supplier relationships that results in industry leading innovation
  • Strong computer skills with at least an intermediate level in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and PLM type systems and reporting
  • Ability to establish and negotiate volume & costing that meet raw material targets for successful commercialization and smooth production
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, both internationally and domestically

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating and driving innovation concepts to production
  • Experience with ESG requirements such as OEKO-TEX®, BLUESIGN®
  • Familiarity with outdoor lifestyle and/or an interest to learn
