Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
Demonstrates effective communication skills employing empathy and compassion when working with the patient/families in the provision of social services. Responsible for providing psycho-social support, brief counseling and necessary referral for patients and families in all departments in the hospital setting (including infusion center). Able to work with age specific populations according to the setting. Coordinates plans with physicians, nursing staff and other care givers as appropriate. Consults with MSW as needed for coordination of care.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- BSW or MSW in social work. Licensure in the State of Iowa or license eligible.
- Prefer previous health care experience.
- Knowledge of Medicare and insurance industry.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Must demonstrate critical thinking skills and decision-making ability required for management responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and to communicate effectively.
