Job description
Artimus is seeking a Software/Controls Engineer to develop novel strategies to model and control HASEL actuators using capacitive sensing techniques. You will work directly with a co-founder of the company to develop these cutting-edge sensing and control strategies. Since HASEL actuators are a nascent platform technology, this position offers a unique opportunity to invent new sensing strategies and their associated electronics for the next generation of robotic structures. This position will require end-to-end engineering, stemming from concept ideation to designing end-user interfaces. Due to the fast-paced and inventive nature of this position, creative thinking skills are of utmost importance.
Job Duties:
- Development of novel capacitive sensing techniques
- Develop closed-loop controllers based on capacitive sensing to regulate the position of HASEL actuators
- Implement sensing and control into Artimus product line
- Assist with the development and implementation of graphical user interfaces
Required skills:
- Expert with circuit simulation tools like LTspice or PLECS.
- Expert in control theory and electrical theory
- Expert at programming microcontrollers using C++.
- Experience with Arduino, Teensy, and/or ESP32 microcontrollers
- Proficient at data collection, processing, and visualization
- Expert at designing and implementing proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers
- Experience developing and optimizing multivariable control systems
- Experience with Fourier transformations and analysis
- Experience with high fidelity signal processing
- Experience programming graphical user interfaces using Matlab, Labview, Python, or similar software.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills and the ability to quickly learn on-the-fly
Additional preferred skills:
- A master’s degree (or 2-5 years equivalent industry experience) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- Experience working with electronic hardware, specifically actuator and sensing technologies
Compensation
- Salary of $70-90k per year depending on experience.
- Equity compensation is also available.
- Flexible hours.
- Competitive benefits package including health, dental & vision.
- Room to grow.
- Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume.
About Artimus Robotics Inc.
At Artimus we are developing and manufacturing a new class of soft actuators (or artificial muscles) for a wide variety of industries including automotive, medical, defense, industrial, and other exploratory areas. Instead of the rigid materials typically found in mechanical systems, we are taking a new approach by making electric actuators from a combination of flexible and soft materials. Our core technology, which we call HASEL (pronounced “hazel”) actuators, offers many benefits over traditional actuators. Customers turn to our technology for unique features including compliance, low-weight, non-metal materials, high speed operation, and adaptability.
First developed at University of Colorado Boulder, our HASEL actuation technology garnered international attention with coverage in Wired, National Geographic, and a Ted Talk. Check out our YouTube channel for more videos & info about our tech.
