SGSS has an immediate full-time opening for a junior software engineer. Work site locations are available in Virginia, Colorado, or Florida. The position will be responsible for software integration and development of the Virtual Mission Operations Center (VMOC) software. VMOC is a web-based satellite management software and is a program under contract with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC. This position requires a motivated individual who seeks to work in an Agile team environment where creative solutions are encouraged, and technical challenges are the norm. In addition to designing, implementing, and documenting features and improvements, this position also requires researching new technologies or methodologies for VMOC to adopt, as well as being able to communicate effectively with customers, management, and other developers.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must have or be able to obtain up to a DoD TS security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other related field with a minimum of one (1) year professional experience – will also consider additional relative work experience in lieu of degree
  • Practical experience with object-oriented development, software configuration management tools (git), relational databases (MySQL, PostGreSQL, Oracle), and development of APIs
Preferred three (3) years' Experience with:
  • Java/Java EE application development
  • Spring/Spring Boot application development
  • Application server development on JBoss Wildfly server
  • GUI development
  • Atlassian Software Development and Collaboration Tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket etc).
  • Unix based operating systems
  • Cloud software development and concepts
  • Web security technologies and best practices (e.g. PKI, OpenId)
  • Satellite Systems, Satellite Operations, and/or Aerospace Engineering concepts
