At CoBank, our Software Engineer analyzes, designs, develops, configures, tests and debugs enhancements and new implementations of custom and third party applications. Provides technical leadership for development projects, adhering to CoBank development methodology and producing appropriate supporting documentation. Provides business hours and after hours support for applications already in production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyzes/reviews customer queries, verifies reported problems, and works through help desk personnel to resolve issues with vendor hardware and software.
- Creates and reviews technical/functional design.
- Designs, codes/configures, and tests enhancements, fixes and new applications within stipulated standards.
- Performs component and assembly test to ensure built/changed component complies with design documentation.
- Modifies application release design, test environment and model as necessary.
- Executes product release, and regression testing.
- Assists in the review of functional (user) documentation and training for technical accuracy, business content, and process adherence. Maintains or creates as required.
- Recognizes issues, takes ownership and drives to resolution with minimal supervision.
- Performs various non-routine tasks in area of responsibility.
- Provides input into work planning process as necessary.
- Coordinates with internal and external resources or project teams as necessary to ensure quality.
- May prioritize and oversee activities of others to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Assists in the identification, assessment and resolution of complex issues/problems.
- Make decisions within parameters set by manager, using job/specialist experience.
- Seeks advice and escalates issues when faced with tasks/problems outside normal scope of job.
- Interacts with client/users around specific work efforts/deliverables.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a relevant discipline.
- Four (4) or more years of relevant experience in information technology, preferably in the banking or financial services industry; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MS SQL Server tools and database design concepts including SQL, Stored Procedures, Triggers, SSIS and SSRS.
- Direct experience with Java Script including AJAX, JQuery, and JSON.
- Familiarity with Source Code Control tools such as Microsoft DevOps.
- Experience with at least one system design/development methodology (RUP, TDD, BIM).
- Familiarity with ASP .NET MVC.
- Familiarity with reporting and automated job scheduling tools such as Control-M or AutoSys.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of management, team members and customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and detail orientation, with demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight time frames and with competing priorities.
- Availability for occasional work outside normal business hours.
