Job Title: Special Aide to the Executive Director

Employment Status (FT/PT/Temporary, Intern): Full-time, permanent

Reports To: Hillary Holley; Executive Director, Care in Action

FLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Exempt

Hours per Week: 40+

Work Location: Remote, but must be able to work East Coast hours. Residence in or familiarity with Atlanta, Georgia is preferred.

BACKGROUND:

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity and fairness for domestic workers in the United States. Founded in 2007, NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections of domestic and home care workers across the country. NDWA is winning improved working conditions while building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity and equality of domestic workers, home care workers, immigrant women, and Black women.

Care in Action, a nonprofit, nonpartisan group dedicated to fighting for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women of color and immigrant women.

Position Summary:

Care in Action and the National Domestic Workers Alliance seek an energetic, highly organized, and self-directed Special Aide to provide strategic, administrative, and logistical support for Care in Action’s Executive Director, Hillary Holley.

The Executive Director oversees all programmatic work of Care in Action and supports the National Domestic Worker Alliance’s efforts, including legislative and civic engagement work. The Special Aide will support the Executive Director to achieve her strategic goals and objectives, including promoting timely, proactive and accurate communications about programs and services internally and externally.

About Hillary: Hillary is a fiery Aries and proud Georgia native who has dedicated over half of her 30 years working in Georgia’s movement spaces, including helping to launch and working on the historic 2018 Stacey Abrams campaign. Prior to joining Care in Action, Hillary served as Director of Organizing and Strategic Advisor at Fair Fight Action, winning Georgia in 2020 and installing a Democratic federal trifecta. Hillary also serves on the boards of Emerge Georgia and States United PAC, an organization dedicated to supporting states’ voter protection efforts.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as owner of scheduling and administrative support for Executive Director to maximize time management and ensure strategic priorities are consistently met in a complex campaign environment, including, but not limited to:

    • Managing the Executive Director’s daily email correspondence and other communications in collaboration with senior staff, including flagging priority threads, creating initial draft responses, and ensuring timely responses,

    • Liaising with external partners and public speaking agents to execute and support the Executive Director’s public engagements,

    • Preparing research and briefing documents for the Executive Director in advance of meetings and public events, which will include coordinating with staff and partners to gather input and feedback,

    • Liaising with the communications team to oversee, schedule, and prepare for the Executive Director’s extensive media opportunities,

    • Attending meetings to record notes as requested and support the Executive Director with follow-up, including coordinating with staff and partners to execute as needed,

    • Maintaining the Executive Director’s contact lists, and

    • Providing administrative support to the Executive Director, including expense reports, reimbursements and travel arrangements.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Managing Director in order to maximize time management and ensure strategic priorities are consistently met in a complex and rapidly shifting environment.

  • Field, assess, and respond to requests and inquiries from the public and from staff.

  • Oversee analysis and dissemination of the Executive Director’s key resources and lessons (speeches, decks, articles) to internal and external contacts as needed.

  • Assist with other duties as needed.

  • Participate in staff meetings, staff study, and staff retreats.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise, skill, and commitment in doing well-organized administrative work, including office operations, communications systems, travel, database, and event support.

  • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, meet multiple deadlines with a keen attention to detail.

  • Experience in handling delicate and confidential information and communication from high-level political executives, elected officials, and staff.

  • Skilled proficiency in Google Suite.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in managing multiple projects and tasks.

  • Excellent relational skills: friendly, diplomatic, patient disposition.

  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends; and ability to travel as needed.

  • Ability to work and collaborate with diverse staff in person and remotely and as part of a high-performing team, in a fast-paced, experimental organization.

  • Strong organizational skills, and creative problem solver.

  • Agreement and alignment with Care in Action and NDWA’s vision and values, including a commitment to economic, race and gender justice.

  • Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and other communities of color.

  • Grassroots organizing, political, or legislative campaign highly desired.

  • Proficiency in languages in addition to English is preferred but not required.
