POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting Special Education teachers in the instruction and supervision
of students with special needs.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Most experience can be gained on-site during the course of your employment.
Expertise in any one area is not required, but a flexibility and passion for working
with students and learning new instructional strategies is.

  • Support a program of studies that meets the individual needs, interests, and
  • abilities of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers to create appropriate learning experiences for
  • students.
  • Support a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate
  • to the maturity and interests of students. Encourages and monitors the progress
  • of individual students.
  • Collaborate with the Assessment Coordinator to support standardized testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Create and implement curriculum adaptations in collaboration with SPED and General Education Teachers, according to the student's Individual Education Plans.
  • Reinforce lessons in small and large groups.
  • Assist with individualized program materials.
  • Assist in observing, recording and charting behaviors.
  • Implement behavior management strategies initiated by the SPED Teacher.
  • Assist with crisis problems and discipline as directed by the SPED Teacher.
  • Program duties may include, but not limited to, the following:Transportation Duty - greet students when they arrive in the morning and assist them with getting from the vehicle to the classroom.

Accompany students to classes.
Supervise students in the classroom.
Assist student with personal hygiene, which may involve lifting and transferring of students in wheelchairs, as directed by the physical therapist, SPED Teacher, and school nurse.
Utilize universal precautions at all times, as trained, while completing personal hygiene tasks.
Adhere to lifting and transferring guidelines as trained in all circumstances.
Complete required documentation during all personal hygiene activities.
Administer medication and other health related tasks to students as directed by the SPED teacher and as delegated by the school nurse.

  • All Special Education Paraprofessionals must also:Perform work of acceptable quality and quantity.

Demonstrate dependability and enthusiasm, in performing assigned tasks.
Become familiar with and adhere to Board approved School District Policies and regulations.
Serve as a positive liaison between the school and the community while maintaining confidentiality.
Demonstrate effective relations with other staff members and work in cooperation with them to achieve positive results.
Communicate effectively with students, staff and the public.
Demonstrate high personal and professional standards and maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the position.
Participate in the writing of personal goals and objectives which demonstrate the ability to develop professionally.
Attend annual trainings as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional bending, reaching, climbing
  • Occasional lifting of students (ex: from wheelchair to seat)

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Lunch and classroom supervisory duties as assigned with other staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate;
distractions will vary from few to many throughout the day.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to analyze, communicate, and evaluate. The employee is frequently required to
copy, coordinate, compute, and compile. The employee is occasionally required to
compare, instruct, synthesize, evaluate, and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by building administrator
and cooperating teachers. This position requires ability to follow directions based on
the instructions given. Errors in decision making could lead to incorrect information
provided to the students, parents or the public. Decision making requires
collaboration with teaching staff and administration. Work is guided by District
policies, school policies, and department procedures.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: This position requires communication skills, ability to work
with students & staff, and ability to work independently.
Skills: Requires basic language, math, writing, computer & software, and filing skills.
Knowledge of general office equipment preferred.

Qualifications:
Education and Training: High school diploma/GED is required. 2 years post-secondary study,
Associates degree, or higher preferred.

Experience: Experience helping students with special needs and/or a school setting is
preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.
Certification, Licensing, and Registrations: None required

contributes a portion toward these benefits. This position also qualifies for PTO leave which is
determined by the position’s work year. Clear Creek School District is a public employer and
participates in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA). All employees
are required by state statute to contribute the current % rate of salary on a pre-tax basis to
PERA. The District also contributes based on current % rates. In addition, our community
