Job description
Oversee and maintain the Fashion Institute labs and classrooms at Library Square & South City Campuses of Salt Lake Community College.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Keep labs and classrooms organized (removing scraps, fabrics, paper left on tables)
  • Keep the sewing machines in working condition
  • Make sure all sergers and industrial sewing machines are threaded correctly
  • Make sure all sergers are back in their neutral position and replace missing or broken needles
  • Keep sergers in their places
  • Put serger thread back in the cupboard
  • Keep all irons cleaned: maintain all irons with water, replace the resin filter, untangle the cords, and remove burned materials from surface, etc.
  • Manage “lost and found” tools
  • Organize, clean, and maintain the organization and cleanliness of the fabric room (box fabrics for transport to other campuses if needed)
  • Make sure all the mannequins are appropriately boxed with all the right parts.



Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to assemble, service and maintain clothing production equipment and machines
  • Ability to perform basic janitorial duties
Preferred Qualifications
  • Organized, attentive, detail-oriented, and proficient at using, repairing, and maintaining all types of sewing machines used within the Fashion program (industrial sergers and sewing machines)
  • Good communication skills
  • Capable of lifting, bending, and moving up to 25 lbs.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Special Instructions
Work approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Candidates will be interviewed.

This is a one-year temporary position that could work into subsequent employment.
