Job Description:
Under the direction and supervision of the Speech Pathology Manager and Ambulatory Operations Director, the Speech Pathologist provides speech pathology services (consultation, evaluation, and therapy) in an acute care hospital and ambulatory care setting.

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 12 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day shift and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled may rotate Monday through Friday and one weekend (Saturday or Sunday) per month.
Must comply with UCMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law. Hyde Park. Our program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to address a wide variety of disorders that stem from equally diverse causes, including, but not limited to, neurological diseases, trauma, complex medical conditions, chemoradiation therapy and surgery.
Under the direction and supervision of the Speech Pathology Manager and Ambulatory Operations Director, the Speech Pathologist provides speech pathology services (consultation, evaluation, and therapy) in an acute care hospital and ambulatory care setting.
Essential PRN Job Functions:
- Evaluate inpatients with communication and swallowing disorders; plan and provide speech/language and/or swallowing therapy to meet patient care needs
- Utilize EPIC for electronic documentation for each encounter, including evaluations, therapy and patient contacts (i.e., telephone conversations, family meetings, etc.), and charge entry for procedures
- Demonstrate excellent communication and organization skills to perform assigned tasks promptly and with a high level of customer satisfaction to ensure optimal cross coverage of department caseload as a PRN staff member
Required Qualifications:
- Master of Science/Arts in Speech-Language Pathology
- ASHA certification
- Licensure with the State of Illinois in Speech-Language Pathology
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in the areas of swallowing disorders and speech-language-cognitive disorders in acute care facilities, with varied populations, including disorders related to neurogenic diseases and complex medical conditions
- Training and/or clinical experience in the areas of aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, voice, and dysphagia, including experience in videofluorographic swallow examinations, are preferred
- Knowledge and utilization of appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients is required and may be obtained through on-the-job competency training
