Position Summary:Built in 1868, the historic Calistoga Depot is an iconic destination, showcasing various experiences under the stewardship of Jean-Charles Boisset. As part of the larger Calistoga Depot, unique spirits will be offered in a bar setting for guest enjoyment. This location will attract customers from the Calistoga area looking to experience spirits in the Boisset way.
The Spirits Lead at the Calistoga Depot is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations, sales, spirits education, buying and guest service. Ensuring any spirits experiences exceed expectations will be paramount for the Spirits Lead, as they train staff, establish processes, and other standards for excellence. The Lead must exude passion for spirits, educating, and engaging guests and staff alike.
Essential Functions:
Maintain in-depth knowledge about high-end spirits, serving as a knowledge source for guests and staff.
Own buying, and inventory management and assist properly with maintaining adequate inventory of spirits and related cocktail items using existing contacts and merchants or introducing new connections to source products with support from the Boisset Collection team.
Personalize guests’ experiences by providing expertise on the best Spirits products for all occasions, guiding our guests to the perfect selection. Learn about guest preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, and prepare and serve beverages.
Develop cocktail programs, utilizing proper equipment and ingredients that entice and intrigue guests.
Coordinate and host on-site VIP visits, interacting closely with Sales, Marketing, and Executive teams, and other staff to confirm all details and requests regarding each visit.
Partner with Calistoga Depot leadership and Marketing team to maintain creative bar layouts and product and program merchandising to achieve the highest quality sales promotion programs that attract customers.
Accurately handle routine purchasing transactions, which include operating cash register and accounting of daily sales, processing returns, and discounts.
Provide general tourist information and, in some cases, more concierge-type service to ensure guests make the most of their time visiting the larger Calistoga Depot property.
Represent Boisset Collection, and the Calistoga Depot at outside functions or special events as needed.
Provide leadership for the entire bar team through the assignment of work, review of progress, and monitoring of results and instruction.
Guide the team toward its goals, seeing that all members of the team are productive, and resolving problems as they arise.
Maintain a clean and well-sanitized workstation. Keeps floors, counters, and equipment clean during and after the shift. Maintains a clean uniform during a shift by using extra precautions, avoiding soiled areas, and submitting for cleaning services. Assist bar staff with stocking, glass washing, set up, etc.
Always practice complete customer service by immediately greeting and welcoming customers, constantly anticipating, and graciously assisting with customer needs, saying thank you, good-bye, and inviting customers back.
Arrive to work on time for scheduled shift, positive, prepared, and in full uniform.
Review timecards daily and update as needed for direct reports; approve bi-weekly timecards at end of each pay period by the deadline, using an online time clock system.
Additional Functions:
Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures. Participate in safety training and report all unsafe conditions or work practices.
Participate in team efforts and perform additional duties as needed.
Necessary Skills:
Language: Ability to speak and understand basic English required for all positions.
Read and interpret documents such as memos, instructions, policies, and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information effectively to groups of customers and/or employees and participate in one-on-one and small group situations.
Math:
Calculate items such as discounts, commissions, simple interest, percentages, areas, circumference, and volume. Ability to understand fractions, ratios, and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Logic:
Apply common sense understanding to multiple tasks, analyze and solve practical problems, prioritize, and delegate tasks and projects, work both independently and as part of a team, and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.
Computer:
Possess intermediate computer skills which can include e-mail, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and basic database activity.
Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a 4-year college or university; or 12-24 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current, valid Driver’s License, insurable driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical activity performing occasional somewhat strenuous activities including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and carrying. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, handle items, and work with the fingers. Requires lifting and moving objects up to 40 lbs. in weight. Clear vision (close and distant) and ability to adjust focus. Hearing adequate for telephone, office, and group conversation.
Work Environment:
Primarily in a well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor setting with adequate ventilation. Periods are required in an un-heated indoor setting (wine cellar) with changing conditions. Short periods outdoors while conducting tours or moving between buildings. Moderate noise levels typical of public space: music sound system, public conversations, telephones/cell phones, large groups.
Schedule and Travel Requirements:
Variable schedule: primarily a set schedule but may require weekends, periodic evenings, and/or periodic or seasonal overtime.
Position does not require overnight travel.
