The Heart of the Valley YMCA is seeking a Sports and Recreation Coordinator to lead and administer the Youth Sports Programming alongside the Sports and Recreation Director.

Sports and Recreation Coordinator will work to provide safe and engaging programs. Monitor day to day operation of youth sports league staff; coordinates youth leagues, including recruitment of volunteer coaches, creating schedules, and rosters. Coordinator will instruct various sports and recreation classes. Will also assist in the day to day operation of summer day camp for youth ages 5-12.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assists in developing, organizing and implementing high quality YMCA program(s).

• Supervises departmental activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Establishes new program activities and expands program/membership within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
• Experience in staff supervision and experience working with children in a sports environment.
• Assists in the marketing and distribution of program/membership information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program/membership scholarship applications.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with YMCA members, program participants and community organizations.
• Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
• Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
• Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
• Compiles program/membership statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills. Prior leadership experience within sports and recreation is preferred.

Post-secondary education or certification related field preferred. Previous experience in a leadership capacity including managing staff and budget responsibility preferred. Ability to motivate, retain, and develop staff. Ability to relate effectively and deliver outstanding customer services to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

This is a full-time exempt position, 40+ hours/week. hours vary based on program needs and often include evenings and weekends.
