Responsibilities:
The Senior Director for Marketing & Engagement leads and directs URC’s marketing and engagement strategy. S/he establishes a clear vision and objectives for integrated marketing and engagement efforts and provides ongoing strategic direction that aligns with the organization’s business development agenda and engages with key stakeholders through a variety of channels. In close collaboration with technical programs and business development leadership, the Senior Director develops strategic and tactical plans to deliver creative and effective marketing and engagement programs in support of URC’s strategic plan business development priorities as well as individual business development efforts. The Senior Director manages a team that supports the execution of plans by providing visually appealing and thought-provoking multi-channel content that effectively raises URC’s profile, including marketing our expertise to potential donors, partners and staff. The team also supports communications needs of existing projects and internal communications priorities.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Business Development
  • Develop a marketing & engagement methodology that can be implemented to support business development efforts.
  • Lead the identification of priorities, goals and KPIs for marketing & engagement campaigns around individual proposal efforts.
  • Plan, develop, execute, and optimize robust multi-touch and multi-channel programs designed to reach potential donors and partners .
  • Write content as needed to support marketing & engagement campaigns (web copy, social media messaging, basic blogs, repurpose of existing content for new use, event talking points, etc.)
  • Coordinate URC participation at priority industry events.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of URC sponsored events and conferences related to business development or thought leadership.
  • Represent URC at industry meetings, conferences, and professional associations.
  • Nurture professional networks of key individuals, organizations, companies, and industry associations/working groups to advance URC’s reputation and reach within the international development industry and the global health sector.
  • Monitor emerging priorities, trends, and issues relevant to international development, global health and key stakeholders to advise on proactive communications, thought leadership and engagement opportunities.
Project Implementation
  • Ensure URC brand and quality standards within program implementation.
  • Build relationships with program leadership and collaborate with knowledge management to capture URC success stories and expertise for integration into marketing and engagement campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with client outreach and communication staff and provide materials to support the donor’s communication of URC project results.
Employee Recruitment & Engagement
  • Working closely with the Human Resources and Recruitment teams, develop multi-touch and multi-channel campaigns to attract and retain URC employees.
Staff Management
  • Manage a staff with roles in writing, web design and administration, video production, graphic design and social media.
  • Ensure alignment of staff priorities with organizational priorities
Additional and other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Other tasks consistent with the nature of this position.
  • As needed, attend, and represent the organization in various events, seminars, and functions.
  • Travel to developing countries as required, up to 10% of the time.
  • All URC Headquarters employees are required to contribute to business development efforts.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a closely-related field.
  • At least 15 years of experience developing and executing marketing and positioning strategies globally, preferably within the international development field.
  • Prior experience working with senior leaders to establish marketing, positioning and engagement priorities.
  • Proven experience finding creative ways to reach key stakeholders.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, fluid and demanding environment .
  • Impeccable English language written and verbal skills with content writing experience for all platforms, including but not limited to writing and editing blogs, thought pieces, social media posts, etc.

  • Ability to synthesize material quickly, identify strategic communications opportunities, and see and articulate the big picture.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage and oversee a variety of projects and tasks.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing, mentoring, coaching, and developing a team using a supportive and collaborative approach.
  • Strong ability to work in ambiguous situations and provide leadership amongst the ambiguity.
  • Ability to promote a high-performance, continuous improvement culture that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Effective relationship-building skills and ability to work across teams in a highly collaborative way.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in international development
  • Public health background
  • Experience with USAID and/or other donor funded organizations
  • Experience with donor funded business development cycles, preferably USAID
  • Proficiency/fluency in a second language that aligns with URC’s portfolio
Physical Demands:
  • This assignment involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
  • This position may require travel to domestic and international locations with varying distances, duration, and modes of transport.
  • This position may require vision, hearing, talking, standing, sitting, walking, lifting.
