Job Summary
The Staff Geoscientist is a entry level professional with detailed academic knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and practices of one or more disciplines relevant to Marine Geoconsulting’s current needs, including, but not limited to, marine, environmental, and coastal geology, QC and interpretation of marine, environmental, and coastal geophysical and other remote sensing data, sediment and environmental substrate sampling and geotechnical data. Works in a team. Awareness, participates and promotes sector and service line strategy. Under close supervision, contributes to marine site investigation reporting by interpreting and assimilating various geo-data; writes technical reports; develops technical skills and knowledge of Fugro’s procedures, computer software and services.
Job Responsibilities
- Loads and interprets marine site investigation geophysical / geologic / geotechnical data and assimilates with other available data (Metocean, archeological, biological habitat, etc)
- Accurately maps, grids, contours, and appropriately presents geologic surfaces, discontinuities, and other features from geophysical data using various computer software applications
- Maintains project file structures and geodatabases according to standard procedures and terminology for purposes of data management and map presentation
- Contributes to technical reports through technical writing, preparation of data examples and graphics, and working closely with others to facilitate presentation-quality charts
- Achieves own annual billability targets (set by others) by performing work captured by others in the organization; Developing client influencing skills only through experience and participation with assigned colleagues; Under direction by experienced geoconsultants, prepares technical documents and may calculate cost estimates for basic bids.
- Actively participate in field and laboratory operations
- Supervise field and laboratory operations of company and subcontractors and solve minor problems that may arise in the process.
- Expected to be 90% billable to projects by performing work captured by others.
Job Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
- Possess a Bachelor of Science degree accompanied by relevant fulltime professional industry experience may substitute for graduate degree or Masters of Science degree or higher in geoscience/engineering/engineering geoscience.
- Some background in geophysics and/or engineering geology is preferred
- No full-time industry experience is required, but some practical work experience is preferred
- Proficient user of MS Office Suite; basic skill level or ability to learn quickly on SMT Kingdom Suite, ArcPro, Global Mapper, CorelDraw and other in-house geoscience software.
