Job description
Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor, this position will support the Sterile Processing Technician to provide safe and efficient indirect patient care while following proper regulatory and infection control standards.
- Distributes and receives Sterile Processing Department (SPD) items and trays from various hospital and clinic departments following regulatory protocols
- Unloads/dries case carts from cart washer and unloads/dries rigid containers for proper storage
- Ensure items removed from washer/sanitizer are kept together in an organized manner to facilitate accurate and timely assembly
- Assists in the ordering, receiving, and putting away of SPD supplies
- Assists with identifying instrumentation and supply outdates
- Assists with the packing/unpacking of shipped consignment vendor items
- Delivers and removes case carts, instruments and other supplies to operating sterile core and operating rooms as directed
- Assists in instrument and supply stock rotation as directed
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness of SPD environment per department protocols or as directed
- Carries portable phone to answer incoming calls and communicates with SPD team to determine action
- Performs duties accurately under stressful conditions
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task numerous requests
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes and frequent interruptions
- Possesses excellent communication skills amongst team members
- Requires outstanding phone etiquette, customer service skills and relays messages accurately
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum of one-year hospital experience preferred
- Ability to work irregular shifts depending on department needs
- Ability to professionally train other department staff members as needed
Shift Time: 8-hour Shifts
