JOB DESCRIPTION
**
Job Title: Student Mentor
Reports To: School Principal(s) & Director of Student Support & Counseling Services
Terms: 200 days; 7.5 hours per day
Salary: Based upon the adopted salary schedule of the WWS Board of School Trustees*

General Description:* The Student Mentor will serve as a student advocate & mentor in*
a non-certified position geared toward supporting students and assisting in removing
barriers that will allow students to be successful.
**
Essential Functions:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following
competencies:

1. Problem Solving-Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully and with student success in mind.

7. Judgment- Displays willingness to make decisions in the best interest of the students and the school and district; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment;

General Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
**
1. Shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.

2. Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the schools’ genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each

  • student.*

3. Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
**
4. Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and community resources.

5. Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
**
6. Shall react positively to directives.
**
7. Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals, and staff.
**
8. Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student’s educational record.
**
9. Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
**
10. Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
**
11. Shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
**
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
**
1. Assist and work with administration to develop successful program targeting most severe at-risk students and match them with support and resources needed

  • to remove barriers in order to be successful @ WWS by focusing on academic, social and emotional needs.*

**
2. Assist and work closely with counselor(s), and other support staff at the school level and district level to closely align their work to also aid in removing barriers

  • to the learning environment.*

**
3. Assist with home visits when needed to support students and families.
**
4. Assist with monitoring of student attendance.
**
5. Assist/create/lead a student support program
**
6. Assist/lead with the integration of family and community support with to increase involvement and improve College and/or Career Readiness
**
7. Assist with Operation Preparation when needed
**
8. Performs other related duties as assigned by the School Principal.
**
Qualifications:
**
1. Degree or working towards a degree in education, school counseling or related school leadership. Preferred certification as a school counselor or school social
worker with experience helping students and families with emotional/social needs in a school setting with success.
**
2. Background or dedication in working with students with learning and emotional/behavior deficits preferred.
**
3. Demonstrated collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
**
4. Background/knowledge in the design of systems and processes to promote success with at-risk students.
**
5. Ability to establish and build a foundation for positive support from community resources for students/families.
**
6. Good communication skills and human relation skills.
**
